An Efficient Combination of 2D and 3D Shape Descriptions for Contour Based Tracking of Moving Objects

چکیده
Tracking the 2D contour of a moving object has widely been used in the past years. So called active contour models have been proven to be a promising approach to real–time tracking of deformable objects. Also tracking 2D contours, which are projections of rigid 3D objects, is reduced to tracking deformable 2D contours. There, the deformations of the contour are caused by the movement in 3D and the changing perspective to the camera. In this paper a combination of 2D and 3D shape descriptions is presented, which can be applied to the prediction of changes in 2D contours, which are caused by movement in 3D. Only coarse 3D knowledge is provided, which is automatically acquired in a training step. Then, the reconstructed 3D model of the object is used to predict the shape of the 2D contour. Thus, limitations of the contour point search in the image is possible, which reduces the errors in the contour extraction caused by heterogenous background. The experimental part shows, that the proposed combination of 2D and 3D shape descriptions is efficient and accurate with respect to real–time contour extraction and tracking.

3D data driven prediction for active contour models based on geometric bounding volumes
Active contour models have proven to be a promising approach for data driven object tracking without knowledge about the problem domain and the object. Problems arise in case of fast moving objects and in natural scenes with heterogeneous background. In these cases, a prediction step is an essential part of the tracking mechanism. In this paper we describe a new approach for modelling the conto...

Extracting and tracking active objects are two major issues in surveillance and monitoring applications such as nuclear reactors, mine security, and traffic controllers. In this paper, a block-based similarity algorithm is proposed in order to detect and track objects in the successive frames. We define similarity and cost functions based on the features of the blocks, leading to less computati...

In this paper, we study the problem of power efficient tracking interval management for distributed target tracking wireless sensor networks (WSNs). We first analyze the performance of a distributed target tracking network with one moving object, using a quantitative mathematical analysis. We show that previously proposed algorithms are efficient only for constant average velocity objects howev...
متن کاملStatistical Background Modeling Based on Velocity and Orientation of Moving Objects
Background modeling is an important step in moving object detection and tracking. In this paper, we propose a new statistical approach in which, a sequence of frames are selected according to velocity and direction of some moving objects and then an initial background is modeled, based on the detection of gray pixel's value changes. To have used this sequence of frames, no estimator or distribu...

Object detection plays an important role in successfulness of a wide range of applications that involve images as input data. In this paper we have presented a new approach for background modeling by nonconsecutive frames differencing. Direction and velocity of moving objects have been extracted in order to get an appropriate sequence of frames to perform frame subtraction. Stationary parts of ...
